What Makes For Every Home “Green”
We profess to be Green, Clean and Soy, but why are they apt descriptors for For Every Home? Well you all know that we use soy wax in production of all our candles and cubes and it is proven that soy wax burns cleaner than any other paraffin based wax. So that is why we are Soy and Clean, but what makes us Green?
As part of a recent company initiative, Bob Gilner, our go to man in the plant, started a recycling program. In the last year, For Every Home has been able to go from recycling 20% of our waste to over 90%. A year ago we would fill up 2-3 dumpsters a week and now we fill up 1 every 2 weeks. Last year we were paying the waste company thousands of dollars a month for garbage and now they are paying us. Every scrap of paper, bottle, can and everything else you can think of is recycled. There are only 2 products that end up in the garbage as we have yet to find a way to recycle or reuse those types of waste. Those include the backing, wax like, paper from our labels and the composite material bands that hold our palates of glass together. As a company we have been able to save an amount of trash equivalent to the Empire State Building from going into our landfills.
We have also started producing our own boxes and packing material. All of our cardboard boxes are cut in the most efficient way, leaving the least amount of scrap material. With the scrap pieces of cardboard that are left over, we shred it and turn it into the packing material that keeps your candles safe in transit.
It has taken a company wide initiative to have people separate out there garbage, but it has been well worth the time and effort. It is amazing to think that over 90% of what we think is useless garbage is able to be reused or recycled. Not only are we excited to have the waste management company paying us for our trash, but we are excited to say that we are leaving a smaller “footprint” for the generations to come.
